Let’s take a minute here to appreciate the friendship these two shared.
They were both angry, hurting men, and they both tried to kill each other. On more than one occasion. And yet they still found companionship in the other.
They had the best friendship I have seen in the entire show.
And I mean FRIENDSHIP.
Fangirls, I love you, you all make Fandoms that much better, but I honestly do not approve of pairing Damon and Alaric.
There was nothing sexual about their relationship, no innuendos or anything.
They were best friends. They were probably one of the few friends they each possessed. They understood each other, and that they both needed to drown their sorrows and pain in alcohol and liquor andhunting.
When Alaric was dying in the cave, they were spending those last few moments making small jokes. They never stopped being friends. Not even when Alaric came back as a cruel creation of Esther’s thirst for ‘setting things right’ or her way of naming her revenge. Not even when Alaric was beating and battering Damon’s face.
When Alaric went down as Elena was dying, Damon was focused on Alaric, not Elena, in that moment. If he had been, he would have called out, “Oh, Elena, no!” at some point.
But he never did. He called out Alaric’s name as he watched his best frienddiein his arms.
Ian Somerhalder, your and Matthew Davis’s performance broke my heart.
The whole episode was absolutely heart-shattering.
